Physiotherapy used to be called physiotherapy, and in ancient Greek it means “restoration of natural function”. The purpose of physiotherapy is to restore, maintain or improve the body’s ability to move and function through external application. Physiotherapy can be used for the treatment and prevention of a wide variety of complaints, diseases, and injuries affecting the locomotor system, internal organs, and the nervous system.

The physiotherapist uses various techniques, forms of training and applications in therapy and stimulates the body’s own adaptation mechanisms. Physiotherapy ideally leads to the harmony of body and mind – “mens sana in corpore sano” – a healthy mind in a healthy body. This creates a state that cures—or at least alleviates—current illnesses and prevents further illnesses. Physiotherapy can be a useful adjunct and sometimes an alternative to surgery or medication.

Physiotherapy is prescribed as a remedy by doctors or naturopaths, like medicines, according to the medical catalogue. The type and number of treatments depends on your individual clinical picture.

The goals of your physiotherapy treatment are largely determined by you and your individual situation.

The primary goals of physical therapy are:

  • alleviation or alleviation of pain
  • Stimulation of blood circulation and metabolism
  • Development of coordination and mobility
  • Increase in strength and endurance

These goals usually do not exist separately, but are often interdependent.

Every good physiotherapy treatment must take into account not only the course of your individual complaints, but also your constitution, age and everyday living conditions.

The fields of application of physiotherapy are diverse – physiotherapy treatments are used for prevention, therapy and rehabilitation.

prevention

In order to prevent complaints and injuries, for example, incorrect posture or imbalance are treated prophylactically, so complaints do not occur in the first place. For example, the combination of muscle building through back training with back school techniques is very effective.

therapy

Physiotherapy is also used for outpatient treatment of illnesses and injuries. For example, in the treatment of sports injuries, physiotherapy can help the healing process and allow a faster return to sports.

rehabilitation

Physiotherapy also helps with rehabilitation after long-term illnesses or accidents. For example, mobility and motor skills can be improved with post-stroke physical therapy, making the return to everyday life much easier.

In addition, physiotherapy treatments are a break from everyday life, which increase mental and physical well-being.

Basically, you don’t need special clothes for physiotherapy.  However, it is advisable to wear sporty and comfortable clothing.

The duration of the therapeutic unit is basically determined by the doctor’s individual prescription. Depending on the therapy, this is between 15 and 60 minutes.

However, what many patients do not know: the time specified by health insurers also includes all activities and obligations that arise around the actual therapy. This includes, for example, making appointments, preparing and monitoring rooms, preparing therapy reports and invoicing the therapy services provided.

Every patient is different, every complaint is individual, every reason is different. That is why every treatment at our physiotherapy practice in Nuremberg begins with an anamnesis – an initial personal conversation between you and your therapist and a thorough examination.

During the conversation and examination, your physiotherapist will get a comprehensive picture of your health condition or medical history – what symptoms are you suffering from? Have there been any previous accidents, surgeries or illnesses? How are your muscles and mobility?

Your physiotherapist derives the individual therapeutic goals and the therapeutic plan from the findings of the anamnesis and discusses them with you.

The actual physical therapy only takes place now based on the therapy plan.

The basis of therapy with the best possible results is a constant and open exchange of ideas between you and your therapist. Therefore, immediately deal with any topic that is on your mind – this is the only way we can always help you as best as possible.
